We came to The Granary for a short 3 night stay after 5 days in Kalkan and from the moment we arrived we wished we had spent our whole holiday in the Kaya Valley.
The Granary is such a beautiful cottage in such lovely surroundings. We thoroughly recommend a visit to Kaya Wine House at the far end of the valley which has one of the best views of any restaurant we have ever dined in. Furthermore if you book ahead they offer a free pick up and drop off back to the cottage.
We would thoroughly recommed Sakli Vadi to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday and a beautiful part of the world. The only thing we would have done differently would be to hire a car, as although the Dolmus is useful, it would have been helpful to have had transport of our own in order to make the most of the local region.
We will definitely return in years to come. Thanks again to Jon and Sandy for a wonderful stay!
Just back from our first visit to Turkey, with all family, booking The Forge, The Granary and The Byre.
We stayed in The Granary…a beautiful traditional cottage, with a lovely patio and rockery, breakfast area, plunge pool, outside cooking area with seating, all surrounded by the valley, sunshine, peace and quiet! Our stay was a pleasure, with Gonal & Nevin, Jon & Sandy’s staff making us feel really at home. The local area has plenty of amenities, a lovely restaurant just down the hill, a small convenience store with very helpful locals just around the corner. A short drive into Kayakoy and you have everything you could possibly need. With the stalls at the road side on your drive in providing plenty of local produce and quirky characters.
The Granary is situated in an ideal location, peaceful and tranquil with everything you need in close proximity. A short drive can take you to the small and local Gemiler Bay beach, or a little longer drive to the beautiful, environmentally protected, Kidrak beach. There is plenty to see and do around The Granary. If you’re looking for scenic strolls, relaxing rests, and fantastic local food this really is the place to stay! A touch of traditional Turkey!
We stayed at The Granary at the end of July 2012. Our first comment when we saw the surroundings and the house was ; what a perfect decision we had made!
We are a couple that love to travel and we usually look for relaxing, rustic and charming places. The Granary is made for that.
The room with air conditioning made our nights comfortable, the patio was lovely to enjoy breakfast and dinner and the kitchen was cute and complete. The bathroom was clean and modern with a nice shower and European W.C. (not the hole in the ground). Also, the pool made the degrees feel less ; we enjoyed the swimming pool every day!
Beside the house being charming, it is very important to say that we were able to visit everything in the area. Thanks to Jon and Sandy, we rented a car that allowed us to visit beaches, ruins, restaurants, villages….
Our overall note for Sakli Vadi is 10/10. It is a dream place!
Thank you Jon and Sandy for such lovely cottages!
Absolutely gorgeous cottages! We stayed for 4 days in June of 2012. Pure heaven lounging in the garden under the sunshade with the plunge pool right there to cool off in. The Kaya Valley is simply stunning. We did the walk to the top of the Greek ghost town, spent an afternoon lounging at Gemlier Bay, drove to Kas, visited the Saklikent Gorge, swam at Patara beach… There is a lot to do here! A week minimum is needed to really scrape the surface
The cottage was a wonderful retreat to relax in at the end of the day. The stars are incredible! We cooked one night on the grill, and the rest we sampled the local village eateries. Do not miss dining at the wine cellar. You are literally seated right below the Greek ruins, and at sunset it is surreal
We ran into a couple that said they return to this property yearly. I can see why!
Jon and Sandy organized a car for us through a local company and it worked out fabulously
Anyone planning a trip to Turkey should consider these gems of cottages. They are in an ideal location to explore ruins, beaches and to take hikes. They are ideal for the self catering for those who like to cook. You will want for nothing.
The most tranquil holiday ever!
From the moment we arrived we were overcome with the beauty of the valley and the peace of the cottage, a total haven, off the beaten track, but close enough to the village to stock up on essentials. The cottage itself was just perfect, all the comforts of home without the distractions of the modern world. We only ate out one night, as making our own food and eating al fresco was such a treat, coming from the UK summer! The plunge pool was perfect to cool off in and read a few chapters before dinner.
Gemiler beach was our local haunt, quieter than Olu Deniz and less tourists.
Wish we could have stayed for a month, the cottage was so homely, you feel as if its truly yours whilst you’re there.
Thank you Sandy & Jon for making such a wonderful place, in a beautiful part of the world; we will be back!
Well, we knew that this secret would not be kept!! How could people not rave about these lovely cottages!! Every time I arrive I feel such joy and know that I have to have a week there every year!!! Only ‘problem’ is that their popularity is now (deservedly) spreading and we find ourselves having to secure our reservation a year in advance!!! Testament to just how lovely a holiday you will have here.
We arrived at The Granary for 6 nights on th 19th June, 2011. The first thing we noticed was the beautiful location and how peaceful it was. The cottage was just as lovely, very spacious, well equipped and comfortable. It didn’t take long to settle in and the plunge pool was very inviting and very much appreciated in the hot sun. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay but found we were so content staying at the cottage, having lovely evening bbq’s and star gazing from our garden that we didn’t venture out very often. There are however, lots of places to visit which aren’t too far away but if relaxing is was you want to do there is no nicer place. We will be back!!!
My girlfriend and I recently spent ten days at the Granary. After perusing the website we were expecting the cottage to be nice but on arrival were almost surprised by how lovely it was. From the beautiful bathroom to the lovely big bedroom/living room to the cute little kitchen, the cottage was, for us, perfect. We liked it so much that we spent half the holiday just lying around by the plunge pool reading!
When we did go out we never ventured very far from the valley, although we did have a hire car which made things a very easy. We went to three different beaches – Gemiler (down the road from the cottage, nice and small), Oludeniz (big, bit more commercial but still very beautiful) and Kidrak (round the corner from Oludeniz, very quite, beautiful but very very hot as no breeze), and to a few of the local restaurants. Cin Bal in the next village was our favourite – traditional Turkish food cooked in front of you in a great setting, but we also liked Posiedon.
There were so may things we didn’t do. The Kaya valley itself is breathtakingly beup-autiful and we’d have liked to do a bit more walking but we were too busy relaxing!
We would recommend the Granary to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. We can’t wait to go back!
We are a couple of Italians and we were so lucky to have the possibility to stay 11 days at The Granary, one of the Sakli Vadi superb cottages!
It was so hard to leave The Granary to come back to Italy, as we had such a wonderful time in it and travelling around. We loved the way the cottage is furnished and well equipped, with a lovely front door apartment space to stay during the day (with a cute fireplace and the possibility to do barbecueing) and a lovely and refreshing plunge pool next to wich we could enjoy afternoon sun and night stars. We were very well looked after by Gonul, the housekeeper Nevin, and wish to thank Jon and Gonul for their kindness and help and Sandy for having created this little paradise.
The cottage is not only beautiful it is also very clean, romantic and close to many interesting and fantastic places to visit. Both cottage and the whole area around exceeded our expectations ! You can visit historical sites and beautiful beaches around, being sure to be back in complete relaxing natural environement in the evening.
We loved the peace we could make experience of being at the same time cuddled by a very comfortable accomodation and natural enviroment. We would highly recommend it to people who love nature, beauty and comfort
My now wife and I stayed at the Granary for two weeks for our honeymoon in May 2010, and we had an absolutely fantastic time. I can’t speak highly enough of the facilities and the service – the cottage itself is marvellously presented, particularly the lovely garden area which is great for breakfast, sunbathing by the private plunge pool, sundowners, and evening barbecues. We were met in the village on arrival by the housekeeper, who made sure that we were well looked after during our stay. The location was superb too – set on top of a hillock at the end of a valley, in rural Turkey, just a couple of kilometres from the sea, but within easy striking distance of lots of interesting things to do. Each of the cottages is unique and different, but the Granary certainly isn’t second best to any of the others.
It would be possible to stay here and do everything by public transport (there is a regular minibus service along the valley), but it’s certainly easier if you have your own hire car.
When we saw the Sakli Vadi website, we thought that it was likely that the cottages would be pretty good, but there’s always a suspicion that you never can quite tell from the internet. When we woke on our first morning (having arrived late and in the dark) and stretched our legs, we were astonished to find that, if anything, the place exceeded not just our expectations but also our hopes. Warmly recommended – and great for honeymoons!
My wife and I stayed in the Garnary for three nights in late April 2010. The cottage istelf was perfect for us. A large, comfortable bedroom, well-equipped kitchen, modern bathroom/shower. We especially enjoyed the outdoor sitting area-great for taking morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. The location itself is across the street from a great restaurant whose owner one night made us up a nice “to go” plate of lamb, yogurt and tomatoes/cucumbers. It is also within walking distance to a grocery store.
The area itself is fascinating and well worth more than the few days we spent there touring the abandoned village of Kaya Koyu, lazing on the beach at Oludeniz and walking the local roads. If you have time and the courage, take a paragliding trip or walk a day on the Lycian way. Those will be activities for our next trip!
Myself and my wife stayed here for 1 week and were blown away by the whole experience! The cottages are in the most amazing location and the ‘Hidden Valley’ would have remained off of our radar had we not come to stay here.
Our view was seriously spectacular, (If you haven’t yet, make sure you check out the pics on the website!!) every morning we awoke to silence, bar a few bleats from sheep and the odd bray from a donkey in the beautiful farmers fields and hills that surrounded us. We had everything we could need at the cottage itself, very luxurious and boutique bedroom, lovely – fully equipped kitchen and a truly fantastic outdoor space for lounging, eating and dipping in our very own plunge pool! I honestly doubt you will find such great amenities at such prices anywhere else.
The owners were superb hosts, taking their time in explaining to us all the sights and things to see and do in the surrounding areas, of which there are plenty!!
I honestly could continue writing about these superb cottages and their location for a long time…a better idea would be to come and see it for yourself – you will not be disappointed…Thank you Sakli Vadi!!
